Scarborough is located on the coast of Maine six miles south of Portland.  As a pleasant commuter town with its own vibrant business community and shopping areas, we cater equally well to the needs of summer visitors.

Whether for a weekend getaway or summer vacation, we offer a choice of romantic inns, motels, campgrounds and a variety of restaurants.

Besides many fine places to walk and explore, recreational amenities include golf, tennis, bowling, kayaking, short track speedway and indoor carting.

Among Scarborough's most beautiful features is the scenic 3,100-acre Scarborough Marsh.  The salt marsh is crossed by meandering tidal rivers and streams and is a habitat for a broad array of wildlife and birds.  The marsh estuary opens to a coastline flanked by miles of sandy beaches from Pine Point to the South, Ferry Beach, Prouts Neck, Scarborough Beach and the quiet coastal community of Higgins Beach to the North.

With a population of 17,000, Scarborough is Maine's second fastest growing community.

Community Initiatives...

Scarborough Career Development Council

A joint initiative between the

Scarborough Community Chamber

and

Scarborough High School

On Wednesday, April 15, 2009 from 7:30-11:00am, the fourth annual Scarborough Community Chamber sponsored Career Expo will be held again at Scarborough High School.  2009 marks the fifth year of the Career Development Class at Scarborough High School supporting juniors and seniors as an elective class for providing career information with respect to educational requirements, training, and career resources for a wide variety of jobs and careers.  The Career Expo has an entirely new format this year.  Special thanks to all the volunteers who are helping out; every profession the students were interested in, we now have a volunteer for.  Any questions, please contact Jim Gove at shscareerdev@gmail.com

Member Benefit

  • As a reminder, any Chamber member is welcome and encouraged to include something along the lines of “Proud Member of the Scarborough Community Chamber” or “Proud Member of the Portland Regional Chamber” plus the respective logo on their letterhead or communications, if they would like to do so. If you need a file of the Chamber logo for your letterhead, just contact Chamber Staff or a Board member.
  • The Scarborough Community Chamber has begun keeping track of how long Scarborough Chamber businesses have been in existence, so that we can help you celebrate your big anniversaries, etc. Please take a minute to e-mail your business’ year of creation to Julie Bassett (jbassett@maine.rr.com) so that it may be added to our records.
  • Scarborough Community Chamber is now on Facebook and LinkedIn. Just search for “Scarborough Community Chamber” under “Groups,” submit a request to join and you will be approved. These groups are open for any member of a Scarborough Community Chamber business. Start a discussion with your peers on one of these sites today!

Get Involved

Chamber members get the most out of their membership when they get involved, and we always have opportunities. Are you interested in being part of the voice of business in Scarborough? Would you like to help put together next summer’s excellent Concert series? Do you like to write articles? Do you want to help high school students explore careers? Our Board members will be more than happy to talk with you about how you can get involved in these and other valuable efforts. Please contact any of us to see how you can get the most out of your Chamber membership.
