The Sewell Woods is a 35 acre preserve donated by Albert G. Sewell to the Scarborough Land Conservation Trust in 1995. These woods provided the raw materials for Al and his father's woods products business. A great variety of native hard and soft wood covers the area, along with various vegetation, waterfalls, and a seasonal brook, crossed by two steel trail bridges. This is a great area for hiking, bird watching, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing.
Directions from Route 1 and the Broadturn Road (Dunstan Corner): Proceed West 1 mile where you will enter the Ash Swamp Road, continue on this road, past the intersection of the Hearn Road for 800 ft. to the parking lot on your left. You can remove the entrance cable and enter the parking lot. A large sign, a stone with plaque, and a kiosk mark the entrance to the trails. At 500 ft. the short trail turns left. The long trail continues straight. Arrows mark the trails (both trails circle and return to the parking lot). The short trail is about 1/2 mile. The long trail is 1 mile. Please stay on the marked trails, and replace the cable when leaving. No vehicles are allowed on these trails.
