Introduction

Scarborough is an interesting community in terms of its natural resources, its flora and fauna, and its ecological systems. In order to gain some insight into the varied landscape and the richness of its many natural features we are assembling a mosaic of descriptive information.

  1. Organization
    1. Otherwise scattered information can be brought together in one place.
    2. Referencing information through hyperlinks will, one hopes, allow us to gain new insights into it.
    3. Information which might otherwise be relatively unknown or fragmentary can be brought forward and placed in a larger context.
  2. Communication
    1. We can share information between the various groups concerned with our natural resources.
    2. We can share information with the local community.
    3. We can make information on our town available to other communities with similar habitats.
  3. Development
    1. Through an information clearinghouse various groups dealing with local natural resources can avoid duplicative or competing work
    2. We may also be able to stimulate discussion on Scarborough's natural systems.
    3. The information mosaic, as it fills in, can serve to highlight directions for future research.

As we build this site more information will become available on the lands which the Scarborough Land Conservation Trust manages. One can check the site map to see our work. In addition, we are providing an overall reference page for information on our town's natural resources. This includes directories, bibliographies, reports, and data bases.
