Boys Junior League Baseball

The Junior Division of Scarborough Senior League baseball in Scarborough consists of boys 13 and 14 years old. 14 year olds who are high school freshmen have been given the option in past years of playing in the Senior Division (15-16 year olds) of Scarborough Senior League. The number of teams is determined by the registration numbers after a try-out. Historically this division has consisted of three to five teams. Each year this division re-drafts all players.

The Junior League baseball season runs from the first weekend in May through the middle of June. Each team is scheduled to play fourteen games. Since many players are also participating on school teams in May, only one weekend game is scheduled per week until the school baseball season ends, after which three games are typically played per week. Practice time varies according to player availability and coach’s preferences.

The games are scheduled not only between the divisions own teams but also against other greater Portland area Senior League teams, including Cape Elizabeth, South Portland, Portland, Deering, Suburban (Cumberland), Falmouth, Windham, Gray, and New Glouchester. If possible, a year-end playoff is scheduled to determine an in-town division champion. Home games are played at the Scarborough middle school field. Paid umpires are scheduled for all games, resulting in a higher registration fee than other leagues.

An All-Star team is selected in mid-June. Ten players are selected by vote by all Junior division players, with the final two spots balanced by League coaches. All-Star play starts in early July and is a double-elimination tournament.
