Boys AA BaseballScarborough Little League Home Boys AA Baseball is an instructional level of baseball. Therefore, winning is not stressed and the rules are structured in such a way to encourage and develop the skills of the boys. Above all else during our season, our goal is to have fun, encourage our children and assist skill development. Score and league standings are not kept, no playoffs or individual awards are allowed. All players will hit from the pitching machine. If situations require, coaches may need to pitch when equipment malfunctions. Batted balls hitting the pitching machine will be called a dead ball, runners will not advance batter resumes his at bat. No stolen bases are allowed. Games are 6 innings in length and 3 outs per team per inning. There is a 5 run limit per inning for each team on offense regardless of how many outs are against them. The Defensive team will field 10 Players (4 Outfielders). The pitcher will play either side of the pitching machine. Multiple substitutions are allowed. No short fielder (rovers) are allowed. There are no walks. If hit by a pitch, the player will stay in the box and resume his at bat. There will be no called third strikes; umpires and coaches will encourage the child to swing at "good looking" pitches. Every player will hit whether he is in the field or not. No player should sit more than 1 inning. Players should rotate defensive positions every two innings. Players should rotate between infield/outfield positions as well as the skilled positions when safety allows for rotation. Umpires are needed for home plate and first base. Umpires will be allowed to "coach " players during the game to assist in teaching fundamental skills (an excellent opportunity to assist our efforts). Children are not allowed to operate the pitching machine. The wheel is moving at speeds up to 50 mph and small fingers can easily be injured. Coaches will ensure enforcement of this important rule. For safety, Little League rules do not allow the on-deck batter to take practice swings or use the on deck area. We encourage practice swings when setting up at the plate. AA will play one game per week and practice on Saturdays for the first half of the season. Saturday practices will be structured to include one hour of instruction and one hour of scrimmage type games between two teams assigned to a single field. The format will then change to two games per week for the remainder of the season. Emergency Contact Forms must be filled out prior to the 1st game. No child can participate in games unless this form is completed and turned into the team manager. Managers must keep the Emergency Contact Forms with them at all practice and game events.
