SOIL EROSION

Common Problems

Beach erosion

Ditch erosion

Footpath erosion

Possible Solutions

  • Divert runoff around the top of the beach and into a vegetated buffer
  • Build terraces across beach using timbers or other degradable materials
  • Reduce beach area by planting a vegetated buffer
  • Broaden the ditch, if possible, to spread out the flow
  • Use stone check dams on steep ditches
  • Armor the ditch with rip rap or line the ditch with erosion control blankets to help protect against scouring
  • Install timbers across path to divert runoff into a vegetated buffer
  • Place crushed stone or bark mulch on the path
  • Rebuild the path to include meanders across the slope rather than straight down the slope
