How the Friends Support the Library

  Through membership fees and fundraising efforts, the Friends support the Library with donations that purchase books and other materials for the Library’s collection. We provide funding for the Children’s Summer Reading Program, and we also provide discount passes to the Children’s Museum of Maine, the Maine Wildlife Park, the Southworth Planetarium, and the Portland Museum of Art. Eligible cardholders may borrow passes at the Library circulation desk.

   We work closely with the Library Director, responding to requests for volunteer assistance and funding for nonbudgetary Library expenses. The Friends Board of Directors reviews all requests. We also coordinate our work with the Library’s Board of Trustees and advocate for Library budget requests presented to the Town Council.
